Cavities are one of the most significant oral health issues facing kids. According to the CDC, one in five kids aged 5-11 has at least one untreated tooth.
So, what can you do for your child? Proper brushing and flossing is a great way to defend against cavity-causing bacteria. Equally important are regular visits to a pediatric dentist in London. Why’s that? We have the technology to help us diagnose dental disease early on. Since even the tiniest amount of decay can threaten the tooth’s integrity, finding and filling cavities is essential to preventing future issues.
DIAGNOdent for Early Cavity Detection
There are several ways pediatric dentists can detect cavities in children. One of the ways we do it is with the DIAGNOdent, a relative density measuring device. A laser shoots through its tip, and it measures tooth density. If the enamel (outer surface of the tooth) is hard, it won’t generate a reading. If the thickness is low, then it will produce a reading. Cavities eat away at the enamel, therefore reducing the overall density.
It’s a great tool because it allows us to pick up on cavities in their earliest stages. What else is good about it? Your child won’t need to undergo anesthesia. There’s no pain involved, and it’s completely radiation-free.
At Ari Pediatric Dentistry, we’re committed to providing your child exceptional care with the very best treatment outcomes possible. Technology is a big part of what we do. And that’s why we trust in DIAGnodent for early cavity detection in combination with our expertise.
